How to Use This Guide
This
Action Guide, in conjunction with National Recovery
Month’s Media Guide, is designed to encourage the
diverse groups promoting addiction prevention, treatment
and recovery to take advantage of the media spotlight
created by
Silent Treatment.
Generating action at the grassroots level is one of the
most successful ways to spread key messages in a
community. Positive change is more likely to occur when
communities work together.
The guide begins with
suggested strategies for
recruiting
newspapers
to run the
Silent
Treatment
series and
provide coverage of local issues and activities.
The section on
traditional
tools
outlines the basic steps for creating media coverage,
with tips for writing effective news releases, radio
spots and public service announcements to enhance
newspaper, television and radio coverage. The
new media
primer
offers information on how to create blogs, podcasts and
vodcasts for your Web site to reach new audiences.
The
final section provides
support materials,
including a summary of the issues addressed in
Silent Treatment: Addiction in America,
and a calendar of upcoming events that promote and
support addiction treatment and recovery.

From our visitors:
I recently had the pleasure of reading the article
that (Sara Solovitch) eloquently wrote about Hollie
and her recovery from the disease of addiction. I
wanted to thank you for writing such an honest
piece. Hollie and I were roommates during her entire
stay at Chrysalis House and we graduated on the same
day, March 22nd. We are great friends and sisters in
recovery. I am blessed to know her and truly
appreciate what you did. You are a champion for
showcasing the hope that people have who choose to
live instead of give into the disease of addiction.
Most sincerely, Susie Quinn
I
remember watching the "Saving Carrick" "Dateline"
special report, and thinking how I wished they had
mentioned more about methadone maintenance as a
treatment option ...
